I was hired by Materne to make non-alcoholic cocktails for the King and Queen of Belgium. Crazy, right?!
For the visit of the Belgian royal house to Materne, based in Namur, I was hired to create a drink with the products of their portfolio.
Materne is very well known for it’s jams and apple compotes. But besides that, they also produce high quality fruit juices, packed with fruit!
Together with Materne’s marketing director, I brainstormed about what drink could be served to the royal family. No alcoholic ingredients, multiple colors (to keep politics out of it) and a story linked to royalty or to Belgium.
I didn’t make it easy on myself when I proposed to develop a layered cocktail with the 3 colors of the Belgian flag, and to use 4 different juices out of the Materne portfolio and 1 apple compote. But it turned out great! The end result is a mocktail that doesn’t only look great but also tastes great – and met all the requirements!
